Δυο ημέρες μετά η Μαριάν έφυγε από τη ζωή και σήμερα ο Λέοναρντ Κοέν την ακολούθησε.
Αυτό είναι το τελευταίο του γράμμα προς εκείνη:
«Λοιπόν, Marianne,
έφτασε αυτή η ώρα που παραμεγαλώσαμε και τα σώματά μας αρχίζουν να καταρρέουν... Νομίζω πως θα σε ακολουθήσω πολύ σύντομα.
Θέλω να ξέρεις πως είμαι σε απόσταση αναπνοής πίσω σου - αν απλώσεις το χέρι σου νομίζω ότι μπορείς να αγγίξεις το δικό μου!
Να ξέρεις ότι πάντα σε αγαπούσα, για την ομορφιά σου και τη σοφία σου, αλλά δεν χρειάζεται να πω περισσότερα, γιατί τα γνωρίζεις καλά.
Τώρα όμως, θέλω απλά να σου ευχηθώ να έχεις ένα πολύ καλό ταξίδι.

Η Μαριάν είναι η περίφημη κοπέλα του τραγουδιού So Long Marianne. Ο Κοέν τη γνώρισε στην Ύδρα, τη δεκαετία του '60. Έγιναν ζευγάρι και έζησαν μαζί για πάνω από δέκα χρόνια.
Υπήρξε επίσης η έμπνευσή του για το τραγούδι Bird on the Wire που ήταν το δικό της αγαπημένο.
